Eastern Mass City Named One Of Best Small Communities In Country, New Report Says

An Essex County community was highlighted as a stellar destination for visitors, according to a new report.

The coastal city of Gloucester was ranked one of the best small towns and cities in the US in a list published by CNN on Friday, July 21.

The city boasts America’s oldest seaport is home to 29,836 people, according to Census data, but is also a prime spot for visitors.

The CNN list recommended the city for visitors, who can enjoy the city's rich maritime history, fresh seafood and delicious dining, and some of the "world's most beautiful beaches," according to Discover Gloucester.

Visitors can enjoy the town's ocean and nature access themselves by chartering a fishing boat or going whale watching.

CNN recommended visitors stay at either Beauport Hotel or Harborview Inn, both of which have an average of 4.5 stars on Trip Advisor.

Other towns and cities that made the cut include Saranac Lake, New York, Beaufort, South Carolina, and Mackinac Island Village, Michigan.
